Key benefits of Swissterminal barge

Sustainable and eco-friendly solution 3
Barge is an environmentally friendly form of inland transportation. CO2 emissions are relatively low due to the high-volume capacities and low fuel consumption. In terms of noise pollution, the barge also performs well in comparison, while the impact on surrounding nature is reduced to a minimum. The use of this mode of transport thus supports sustainable supply chains with a low footprint, and offers an attractive and economical alternative to rail transport between the tri-border area and the Western seaports.

In addition to transporting containers, barges are also ideal for transporting bulk goods.

High transport capacity 4
Barges are able to carry more cargo than any other mode of inland transport. With this, we provide our customers sufficient space for cargo.

Reduced cost 2
Due to its high carrying capacity and low fuel consumption, barges are one of the most economical forms of intermodal transport.

Technical details about the inland vessels

  • The barge service operates with four coupled barges.
  • Each vessel has a capacity of 342 to 348 TEUs and 24 to 32 reefer slots available.

Key benefits of Schweizerzug rail

Reduced supply chain costs 2
With single trains able to carry 50 truckloads worth of cargo, rail reduces the number of people needed to manage transport, lowering costs and improving efficiency. At Schweizerzug, no Currency Adjustment Factor (CAF) is added to our tariffs – our customers do not have to pay any surcharges to compensate for exchange rate fluctuations.

Sustainable and eco-friendly solution 3
Rail transport has a much lower environmental footprint than road transport or air freight. Schweizerzug’ s dispatching also aims to significantly reduce empty runs in combined transport. In this way, greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced across the board.

Reliability and flexibility 4
Able to avoid bottlenecks and operate even during times of crises, the rail services of Swissterminal offer reliable point-to-point connections. No intersections, traffic jams or time losses. For maximum flexibility, Schweizerzug offers same day booking and departure for export cargo. Any container booked by 10 am for Antwerp or by 12 noon for Rotterdam can start its export journey on the same day, provided there is still capacity.
